Reading the Fine Print: Casino Bonus Terms Explained

A glowing gift box floating in orbit around a small planet

"285% up to €7,500" sounds out of this world. Before you launch, here is how wagering, max bet, game weighting and expiry decide what a bonus is really worth.

Welcome offers are built to look huge — percentages in the hundreds, free spins by the dozen. The headline is the rocket; the terms are the fuel gauge. Five rules decide how far a bonus can actually take you.

1. Wagering requirement

The most important number. "35x wagering" means you must bet 35 times the bonus amount (sometimes bonus + deposit) before bonus money can be withdrawn. A €100 bonus at 35x means €3,500 in bets. The lower the multiplier, the better.

2. Maximum bet

While a bonus is active, most casinos cap your stake — often around €5 per spin. Going over it can cancel the bonus and any winnings from it, even by accident.

3. Game contribution

Slots usually count 100% towards wagering. Table and live games often count much less — sometimes 10%, sometimes nothing. Some high-RTP slots are excluded entirely. The bonus terms list them.

4. Expiry

Bonuses and free spins have deadlines — from a few days to a month. Wagering that is not finished in time is lost, together with the bonus.

5. Maximum cash-out

Some offers, especially free spins and no-deposit bonuses, limit how much you can withdraw from bonus winnings. Everything above the cap is removed.

The bigger headline is not always the better deal: Offer B asks for half the play on the same bonus.

The honest rule

A bonus is extra playtime, not free money. Only deposit what you would spend anyway, read the terms before you accept, and remember you can always say no to a bonus.
